A progressive corollary to “Godwin’s Law…” introducing “Karpf’s Law.”
If you hang out on internet discussion forums long enough, you’re bound to encounter a reference to ”Godwin’s Law.” Mike Godwin proclaimed in 1990 that “as a Usenet discussion grows longer, the probability of a comparison involving Nazis or Hitler approaches 1.” Standard practice is that when you hear such a comparison, you call out “Godwin’s Law.” Randall Munroe illustrates the concept below:

Well, I’ve been having conversations among political progressives for long enough to notice a similar phenomenon, so I hereby place my flag in the soil and announce “Karpf’s Law:”
as a progressive discussion grows longer, the probability of a comparison involving Karl Rove approaches 1.
Likelihood that this will catch on as an internet meme: .0007%
Likelihood that my friends and colleagues will nonetheless be amused: .9993%
You heard it here first, folks. ”Karpf’s Law.” Progressives always invoke Karl Rove eventually. It’s time to get over Rove and move on.
