Verizon: Abandoning rural customers to put FiOS in NYC

September 28, 2006 – 11:19 pm

As if I needed another reason to think that Verizon is, perhaps, just in this for the money. Apparently, USF subsidies aren’t enough for them to make mad cash in rural areas, so they’re just going to sell off the lines to the highest bidder, who’ll slash costs, reduce service, and dash any hope that rural residents will get out of their dialup ghetto.

Fascinating story in the (credit where credit is due) NY Times tech section. It really puts a face on the urban/rural digital divide.

  2. Haha Bill, I plugged this article into Technorati to see who had blogged about, and there you were at the top of the list!

Give me a year or two to get done with law school, and I’ll get to work on this one.

    Hope you’re well, man.
