Mark Cuban on YouTube: Why the latest Grokster ruling will ruin technology

In a Rueters story this Thursday, Mark Cuban said that “anyone who [invests in YouTube] is a moron.” I LOVE YouTube, but I fear that he’s basically right.
Cuban has two main points. His first claim, that YouTube is on the verge of being “sued into oblivion,” is hardly a done deal but generally right on. [...]

Verizon: Abandoning rural customers to put FiOS in NYC

As if I needed another reason to think that Verizon is, perhaps, just in this for the money. Apparently, USF subsidies aren’t enough for them to make mad cash in rural areas, so they’re just going to sell off the lines to the highest bidder, who’ll slash costs, reduce service, and dash any hope that [...]

Tina, “the blogger behind Tinasbeen.blogspot.com” (and my less-than-technophile fiancee), started a blog on Tuesday. Today, her (positively [...]

Hotel minibar keys open Diebold voting machines

If only that headline were from The Onion. Instead, it’s from Princeton Computer Science Professor Ed Felten.
Here, from his blog post, is Felten’s description of how he learned of this flaw:
On Wednesday we did a live demo for our Princeton Computer Science colleagues of the vote-stealing software described in our paper and video. Afterward, Chris [...]

Copyright policy laundering: Latest round helps broadcasters

In the latest round of developing US copyright law via unaccountable delegations to international policy bodies, the PTO and Copyright Office are helping to concoct a WIPO treaty that would give a scary new para-copyright to broadcasters.
The World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) is currently considering what is often referred to as the “broadcast treaty,” most [...]
