Colbert sparks C-SPAN copyfight
As I’m sure you’ve heard by now, Stephen Colbert’s speech to the White House Correspondents Dinner was an absolutely awesome and gutsy performance.
As discussed in the Times, the clip spread like wildfire on user-generated sites like YouTube and ifilm.com. But then C-SPAN sent them cease-and-desist letters. Thankfully, you can still see the Colbert speech at the C-SPAN website (it’s at the very top of the “recent programs” list), and it’s of better quality and more complete than the other clips you’ve likely seen.
Despite the improved quality, it’s a shame that our nation’s barely-watched public access station is apparently happy taking the glory generated by viral video sites like YouTube but unwilling to share.
