Barton’s bill makes me ill
The Barton telecomm bill not only fails to create a network neutrality mandate, it actually prohibits the FCC from creating a generalized neutrality mandate.
As of today, it has passed out of subcommittee with full backing from every Republican in the room and, shamefully, a little Democratic help. I am not lately a fan of simple iron-triangle political explanations, but this is simply the product of telecomm outspending e-businesses 3 to 1.
It would probably be poor form to share all of the hate-laced profanity I’m thinking right now, so let’s politely state that I wish the Joe Barton and his subcommittee friends would suddenly decide that coaching T-ball is their true calling in life. Because leading this country into the future is apparently not on their to-do list.
Additionally, I’d like to see the right wingers on the CNet boards (who are only there b/c the word “Republican” is in the subject title) would learn a little bit about the debate before they brought their half-formed partisan dittoheadedness over to one of the world’s best sources for tech and tech law news.
